Parkland grad Goetz-Morales wraps up fine career at NJIT

Adriana Goetz-Morales is wrapping up a solid career with the New Jersey Institute of Technology women’s volleyball team.

The 5-foot-10 graduate student from Breinigsvi­lle and a Parkland High graduate has started 16 of 17 matches and has played in all 56 sets for the Highlander­s who were 7-10 overall and 1-2 in the America East Conference after a 3-0 league loss at New Hampshire last Sunday in Durham, New Hampshire.

Goetz-Morales, who had a team-high 10 kills in the match, leads the team with 148. She has a solid .201 attack percentage with 61 digs and 24.0 total blocks. She has had 13 kills twice – against Hofstra and Manhattan — and had 12 digs against George Mason.

In her career, Goetz-Morales has played in 115 matches and 359 sets and has 752 kills, 345 digs, 163.0 total blocks and 51 service aces.

Tristan Wheeler – Richmond football (Freedom)

The All-American linebacker is one of 39 Football Championsh­ip Subdivisio­n finalists for the Campbell Trophy that recognizes the top scholar-athlete in the nation. The award, which recognizes players for combined academic success, football performanc­e and exemplary leadership, was announced by the National Football Foundation. The finalists will be announced on Oct. 25, the winner on Dec. 5. There were 201 players on the original list. Wheeler, a team captain, has 62 tackles for the 3-3 Spiders this season and has 428, including 187 unassisted, in 46 career games.

Ben Ortwein – Rider men’s golf (Notre Dame Green Pond)

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound junior was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference golfer of the month for September. The award was announced on Oct. 4. He averaged 70.8 in five rounds for the Broncs in the month. He finished third at the Temple Invitation­al with an even-par 140 on rounds of 69 and 71 to help Rider finish third. Ortwein opened the season by shooting a 4-over 215 at the Doc Gimmler tourney including a final-round 67 on the Bethpage Red Course in New York.

Abby Burnett – Michigan field hockey (Emmaus)

The 5-foot-6 freshman back has started all 12 games on defense for the 15th-ranked Wolverines who were 6-6 overall and 1-4 in the tough Big Ten Conference after a 2-1 overtime loss to No. 6 Rutgers Sunday in Piscataway, New Jersey. All six losses have come against nationally ranked teams. Burnett has picked up a defensive save and is third on the team in minutes played (581). The defense has given up 16 goals (1.34 goals against average) with four shutouts.

Alyssa Zack – East Carolina women’s cross country (Northweste­rn Lehigh)

The graduate student finished 17th out of 375 entrants in the Brown Race at the annual Paul Short Run Sept. 30 in Bethlehem. She covered the 6,000-meter course in 22:12.4 and was the first finisher for the Pirates who were ninth out of 43 teams. Zack posted a personal record 5,000meter time of 17:52.6 when she was 18th out of 135 finishers at the Adidas Challenge on Sept. 16 in Cary, North Carolina, but finished 11th in the team standings because seven unattached runners came in ahead of her.

Jaiden Ellis-Lahey – Northern Iowa football (Bethlehem Catholic)

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound wide receiver, a true freshman, led the Panthers with seven catches for 77 yards including a 39-yarder in a 27-20 victory at Indiana State in a Missouri Valley Conference contest last Saturday to lift the team to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Ellis-Lahey is the second-leading receiver on the team with 11 catches for 193 yards. He scored his first collegiate touchdown, a 2-yard reception, in a 44-41 upset victory over nationally ranked Youngstown State on Sept. 30.

Sone Ntoh – Monmouth football (Emmaus)

The 5-foot-11, 235-pound graduate student had a 92-yard touchdown run to help the Hawks top Lehigh 49-7 on Sept. 30. He also scored on a 2-yard run giving him the Coastal Athletic Conference lead in touchdowns with eight. He carried the ball eight times for 110 yards. Ntoh, who played three seasons at Harvard prior to going to Monmouth, has carried the ball 23 times for 243 yards. He gained 320 yards on 106 carries with three touchdowns in his three seasons with the Crimson.
