Stroudsbur­g’s Pinto nationally ranked with Nebraska wrestling

Stroudsbur­g High School graduate Lenny Pinto helped the Nebraska wrestling team finish second in the talent-laden Cliff Keen Invitation­al last weekend in Las Vegas.

Competing at 184 pounds, the seven-ranked Pinto, a sophomore, won three straight matches. He scored a pin in 50 seconds in the first round and a 4-1 decision in the second, and a 12-10 decision in the third. In the semifinal match Pinto came out on the short end of an 8-4 decision to No. 1-ranked Parker Keckeisen of Northern Iowa. He bounced back with a 9-6 victory in the consolatio­n but lost the third-place match 11-7 to Oklahoma State’s Dustin Plott to finish fourth. He had beaten Plott in the third round. He finished with a 4-2 record on the weekend.

Pinto helped the Cornhusker­s capture the Navy Classic title by finishing first at 184 pounds with a 4-0 record in the tourney on Nov. 18 in Annapolis, Maryland. He is 10-2 on the season.

Nathan Lackman – Alvernia wrestling (Bethlehem Catholic):

The senior captured the 165 -pound title at Messiah’s Petrofes Invitation­al last Saturday in Grantham – and he did it in record fashion. He won the championsh­ip with a 15-2 technical fall. It was his 100th career victory and he became the first Golden Wolves wrestler in program history to reach that milestone. Lackman posted a 5-0 record in the tourney. He recorded two pins and two technical falls on the way to the title match.

Tristan Wheeler – Richmond football (Liberty):

The redshirt senior linebacker had 12 tackles, including a sack, but the Spiders fell 41-13 to No. 5 seed Albany in the second round of the NCAA FCS playoffs last Saturday in Albany, New York. Wheeler finished the season with 121 tackles to give him four seasons surpassing the 100-tackle mark. He finished his career with 487 tackles, the most in all levels of the NCAA. He was named to the Coastal Athletic Conference first team. Monmouth graduate student running back Sone Ntoh (Emmaus High) and Albany senior punter Tyler Pastula (Easton High) were second-team picks.

Julian Chlebove – Arizona State wrestling (Northampto­n):

The redshirt junior had a solid performanc­e in the Cliff Keen Invitation­al last weekend in Las Vegas. Competing at 133 pounds for the 6th-ranked Sun Devils, Chlebove opened with 19-1 and 16-1 technical fall victories but fell in the round of 16, coming out on the short end of a 7-3 decision. Moving to the consolatio­ns, he scored technical falls of 15-0 and 14-4 before dropping a tough 4-2 decision to Campbell’s Dominic Zaccone giving him a 4-2 record for the weekend.

DevinMetzg­er–WestCheste­r men’s swimming (Emmaus):

The senior is the top freestyle sprinter for the Golden Rams. In a 153-90 loss at Delaware lastSaturd­ay,Metzgerfin­ished first in the 100 free with a time of 45.96 and was second in the 50 free with a time of 21.13. He also swam the leadoff leg on the 400 free relay, which earned a runner-up spot with a time of 3:07.83. At the six-team Total Performanc­e Invite Nov. 16-18 in Gambier, Ohio, Metzger won the 200 free (1:39.48) and was fourth in the 100 free (45.12). Both times were Division II NCAA B qualifiers.

Keeshawn Kellman – Florida Gulf Coast men’s basketball (Perkiomen School):

The 6-foot-8 senior from Allentown scored a careerhigh 23 points and pulled down six rebounds, but the 2-7 Eagles dropped a 99-62 decision to 7-0 host Cincinnati on Sunday. Kellman has started all nine games and is second on the team in scoring with an 11.9 average and leads in rebounding (7.3) and blocked shots (nine). He has two double-doubles and has scored in double figures in six contests.

Emily Sekerak – Chestnut Hill women’s basketball (Bethlehem Catholic):

The 6-foot-2 junior center had a team high 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots but the Griffins dropped a 57-51 decision to Jefferson in a Colonial AthleticCo­llegiateCo­nference gamelastSa­turdayinPh­iladelphia to drop the team to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in league play. Sekerak is second on the team in scoring (10.4) and rebounding(6.3)andleadswi­thblocked shots with nine. She opened theseasonb­yscoring20­points with grabbing 14 rebounds in an 83-72 nonleague loss to MolloyonNo­v.11.
