Northern Lehigh inducting Arnold, Evans, Hluschak, 2005 team into Ring of Honor
Wrestlers Andrew Arnold, Darrin Evans, Adam Hluschak and the 200506 PIAA Class 2A championship team are being inducted into Northern Lehigh’s Ring of Honor prior to the Jan. 10 home match against Pen Argyl.
Arnold was a two-time District 11 champion, plus a Southeast Regional and PIAA champion at 125 pounds, NHSCA Junior National 8th place All-American. The 2007 graduate was a two-time state medalist, including his gold medal in his senior season when he was 40-3. He was a three time District 11 and Southeast Regional Class 2A finalist and a Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic champion with 70 career pins. He was a member of the Bulldogs’ 20042005 state championship team and 2005-2006 state runner-up.
Evans was a three-year letter winner in football, including a starting linebacker on the 1981 Centennial League championship team. He was a team captain and the Centennial League all-star running back in 1982, and represented Northern Lehigh in the 1983 LARC all-star game.
He had 94 career wins, 236 career points and was a four-year letter winner on the wrestling team. He was a Centennial League champion in 1983, a member of the 1982 and 1983 league championship team and a league runner-up in 1981 and 1982.
The 1983 graduate was a two-time District 11 champion, 1982 South Region champion in 1982 and a PIAA third-place finisher in 1983.
Evans also was a three-year letter winner in track & field, setting the school record in the pole vault (14 feet, 3 inches) which still stands today. He was the 1983 Centennial League and District 11 pole vault champion and state runner-up.
He wrestled at Bloomsburg University, where he had 86 career wins and was a two-time PSAC champion (1985-86), EIWA champion in 1985 and two-time NCAA Division I qualifier in 1985-86.
Evans is a technology teacher at Orefield Middle School in the Parkland School District.
Hluschak was a four-time Southeast Regional and PIAA medalist and has the school record for career wins (160) and wins in a season (46 in 2006). He also was a two-time District 11 champion (2006-07), an NHSCA National
Wrestling All-American in 2007, voted District 11 Outstanding Wrestler twice by Lehigh Valley referees and a three-time Colonial League first-team all-star.
Hluschak also was the football team’s recipient of Captain’s Award in 2007. He had 83 career wins wrestling at East Stroudsburg, where he was a two-time Super Regional medalist, a national qualifier once, a two-time team MVP and three times received the Coach’s Award three times.
Hluschak is employed by Gulph Creek Hotels as director of operations at the Renaissance Hotel in Allentown. Adam has two children with his significant other, Sigrid: 3-year-old Aidan and 6-month-old Penelope.
The 2005 wrestling team was the Colonial League, District 11, District 11 dual meet, Southeast Regional and PIAA dual-meet champion after beating previously unbeaten Reynolds in the final.
That Northern Lehigh team was the Morning Call Team of the Year and the No. 1-ranked Class 2A team in the state.
