The Morning Call

never been performed before and will never be performed again. It’s made up totally on the fly. If the audience is familiar with the show “Whose Line is It Anyway,“it’s just like that but is made up based on the current audiences’ desires and wants. They get to make it their own comedy show. There are a lot of opportunities for them to get involved and be up on stage if they so choose as well as improvised music, serenades to audience members and freestyle rapping. It’s incredibly unique and different every time we do it.

The other reason the show is special is that whenever we’re in town we like to partner with arts councils and historic theaters to put on benefit shows and that’s what this one is. It’s in partnership with Nazareth Center for the Arts and will be put on at the Nazareth

Area High School auditorium. A good portion of the ticket proceeds are going to the high school theater program as well as the Center for the Arts. It’s a way for us to give back to the next generation of artists as well as the ones who are already doing their thing.

Q: What do you enjoy most about doing these types of improv shows?

A: I love that it’s different every time. I used to do a lot of theater where it’s the same show every time. That’s meaningful and incredibly entertaining but this kind of show sneaks up on you. It’s never what you think is going to happen. The guys I’ve gotten to perform with over the years continue to find new ways to surprise me as well as the audience, because it’s all made up with their suggestions.

Q: Would you also say the most challenging part is that the show is always different?

A: Yes! The same answer but just a different spin [laughs]. We’re all comfortable with each other but sometimes you get thrown a few curve balls. For instance, I’m not very good at freestyle rapping and sometimes my fellow performers will make me freestyle rap. But it’s not something that makes me shy away. We all enjoy it and are good sports about it.

Q: In your opinion, why is it so important for people to support the arts in schools?

A: It’s important for people to be involved in the arts not only because it’s fun but also because art is something that bridges gaps, tears down barriers and brings communities together. There’s something incredibly meaningful you can communicate on a stage, canvas or in an aria that you just can’t do in a math equation.

Q: Was a career in comedy something you always envisioned for yourself? A: I come from an interesting family. My grandfather was a jazz drummer for a long time and my cousin is currently touring as a jazz drummer. My uncles did stand up for years and both of my parents met on a singing tour in Munich, Germany when they were 13. I suppose being up in front of people is the family business.

Q: Is there a message you’d like to give to fans prior to the show?

A: This is the most one-ofa-kind show you will ever see. It has never been performed before and will never be performed again. You’re going to laugh and that laughter will help give the next generation of artists in the Nazareth area the opportunity to make people laugh and create art. So come on out and see it, not just for yourself but also for the future.
