Marco F. Roman, 86, of Bloomsburg, formerly of Weisenberg Township Lehigh County, died Sunday, in the home of his daughter, Teresa. He was the widower of Alia M. (Sfarra) Roman, who died October 31, 2014. Born in Philadelph­ia, Marco was a son of the late Adolfo and Caterina (Guarracino) Roman. Marco and Alia were parishione­rs of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Kutztown. He honorably and faithfully served our country as a veteran of the United States Air Force.

After the military, Marco began his career in Philadelph­ia as a barber. He later joined AT&T/ Bell Telephone Co. working in all phases of the telephone industry during a 30-plus-year career, before retiring from the coin division as a technician at their Linden Street garage in Allentown.

Marco enjoyed the outdoors and staying active throughout his life. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler, enjoyed horseback riding with friends, and practiced judo while in the Air Force. Later, he took up tennis and enjoyed life as a small-scale farmer, gardener and harvesting firewood on his property in New Smithville. Marco always participat­ed in the community and was ever ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors in need. In retirement, Marco also shuttled cars for Scott Chevrolet and later volunteere­d as a driver for Meals on Wheels.

Marco is survived by his children: Marco D. Roman, Ph.D., husband of Roxanne S. (Stefanik) Roman, Greencastl­e, Franklin County; Anthony M., husband of Deborah (Cramer) Roman, Lansdale, Montgomery County; Teresa A. (Roman) Williams, Bloomsburg, Columbia County, companion of Tony Lylo, Berwick, Columbia County; and Daniel J. Roman, Bethlehem, Lehigh County. Other survivors include four grandchild­ren: Julianna M. Roman; Anthony J. Roman; Anna E. Roman; and Alia M. Williams. In addition to his wife and parents, Marco was predecease­d by his twin brother Giovanni "John" Roman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, PA 19530, with The Reverend Fr. John C. Maria, Pastor, as celebrant. Interment in Resurrecti­on Cemetery, Wescosvill­e. Friends and family are invited to a viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the church.
