Allentown Council should stay out of foreign affairs

-

At the last Allentown City Council meeting, speaker after speaker gave false statements about Israel, spewed Hamas propaganda and encouraged the council to draft a cease-fire resolution. What is the purpose of Allentown, Pennsylvania, making a statement about the Middle East, and since when is Allentown City Council involved in foreign affairs? While a ceasefire sounds peaceful, this is exactly what was in place between Gaza and Israel on Oct. 6. A call for a cease-fire now may as well be saying: “I remember Oct. 7 when Hamas invaded a sovereign country and gleefully raped women, killed babies, burned entire families, and I call for Hamas to stay in power to repeat this massacre again and again and again, as they have publicly vowed to do, until all Jews everywhere are dead.” I thank the Allentown City Council for carrying on with its important work of helping to make this city a better place to live and work, and I do not expect it to entertain this preposterous idea for a hateful resolution about foreign affairs.
