2010: One night after beating MIT 72-64 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III men’s basketball tournament, DeSales returns to the Sweet 16 for the second straight season with an 82-49 rout of Albertus Magnus at William Patterson in New Jersey. Allen grad Darnell Braswell scores 27 points, grabs 13 rebounds and hands out six assists after scoring 19 points and pulling down 12 rebounds in the opening-night win. The Bulldogs (24-5) advance to meet Randolph-Macon.

2010: Nazareth (20-6) earns its first PIAA boys basketball berth since 1982 with a 65-60 win over Pocono Mountain East in the District 11 Class 4A consolatio­n game.

2010: Central Catholic (25-2) wins its 11th consecutiv­e District 11 Class 3A girls basketball title with a 42-24 win over Northern Lehigh.

2010: Kutztown (23-7) goes down in the PSAC men’s basketball championsh­ip game for the second straight season, losing to IUP (28-2) 84-73 at East Stroudburg’s Koehler Fieldhouse. However, the Golden Bears are selected as an at-large team for the NCAA Division II tournament, as is ESU.

2006: Emmaus grad Aaron

Gray, a junior at Pittsburgh, is named to the first-team All-Big East Conference team after being the only conference player to average a double-double

(14.0 points, a Big East-leading 10.4 rebounds) during the season. A day later, the 7-footer is named the conference’s most improved player.

2000: Palmerton graduate Nicole Levandusky scores 19 points and is named the Atlantic 10 women’s basketball tournament MVP after leading Xavier to an 80-66 win over George Washington in the final, giving Xavier an NCAA tournament berth.

1991: Central Catholic girls basketball star Michelle Marciniak is named Parade Magazine’s co-player of the year, sharing the honor with 6-6 Vonda Ward of Garfield Heights, Ohio.
