Emilio “Sam” Brunotts
LORAIN - Emilio “Sam” Brunotts, age 99, of Lorain, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2014.
H e w a s born in Pittsburgh, Penns y l va - nia, on Aug. 17, 1915, the son of Francesco and Filomena (nee Celani) Brunotts. He moved to Lorain at the age of six and always considered himself a native of Lorain.
Sam married the love of his life, Josephine Birrittieri, in 1941. They were married for sixty-six years and raised one son, Gerald A. Brunotts.
Sam was employed as a foreman in the shipping department of U.S. Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works for forty-seven years.
A life-long parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter, he enjoyed many hobbies including stamp-collecting, coin collecting, gardening, and fishing. Mr. Brunotts was a long-standing member of the Lorain Senior Fellowship and ran the kitchen there for many years. An avid fan of both the Cleveland Indians and Browns, Sam enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was an incredibly witty and humorous gentleman; having survived and experienced the Great Depression, he was filled with interesting stories from his childhood. His mind was unlike any other; he remembered details of current events and unbe- lievable recollections of the past. He could carry the attention of anyone who had the honor of knowing him. His presence in this world will truly be missed more than anyone can imagine.
Sam is survived by his loving son, Gerald A. Brunotts and his wife Deborah, residing in Panama City Beach, Florida. He also leaves grandchildren, Allen Brunotts, Chris Brunotts (Shona), and Amanda Lippelt (Michael) all of Nashville, Tennessee, Samantha Brunotts of Atlanta, Georgia; and great-grandchildren Blake Brunotts, Sarah Brunotts, Michael Brunotts, Matthew Lippelt, Elijah Lippelt, Ariana Brunotts, and Jayden Odoms.
Mr. Brunotts was preceded in death by his loving wife, Josephine; by his parents, Francesco and Filomena; by brothers, Joe, Midel, and Tony; and by sisters, Jean and Teresa.
Please join Sam’s family for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Gerald Keller will serve as celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.
