Carol L. (nee: Parker) West

La GRANGE - Carol L. (nee: Parker) West, age 84, and a resident of La Grange, passed away Friday, Nov . 2 8 , 2014, at Fairview Hospital after several months of declining health.

Carol was born May 4, 1930, in Amherst, where she was raised, and she graduated with the class of 1948 from Amherst High School. She moved to Wellington in 1976 until 1999 when she moved to LaGrange where she has made her home for the last 15 years.

Carol loved working as a legal secretary for 40 years before retiring in 2002. She was an avid Cleveland sports fan. She loved her pets which where her constant companions. She was very active with her children and grandchildren and treasured her time with them.

Survivors include her husband of forty-nine years, James Richard “Dick” West; her sons, James M. (Susan) West of Grafton, Richard L. (Linda) West of Amherst, Richard A. West of Lakewood, Dennis R. (Leslie) West of Elyria; her daughters, Diane (Gary) Boldman of Wooster, Donna (Thomas) DeChant of Avon Lake, Janet (Randy) Strauss of Vermilion, Joan (Bill) Mullins of Avon; 11 grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; and her sister, Betty (John) Simpson of Avon Lake.

Carol was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Laurie Gayle West; her son Richard A.’s wife, Kathy West; her parents, George and Gertrude Parker (nee: Kappley); and her stepfather, Richard A. Prucha.

Friends may call Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Rd., Elyria OH 44035.
