@JKBuckeyes COLUMBUS — Ohio State’s win over archrival Michigan on Nov. 29 came at the steepest of prices.

Redshirt freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett suffered a broken right ankle on the first play of the fourth quar- ter. An OSU spokesman said Barrett will have surgery Nov. 30 and will miss the rest of the season.

Ohio State (11-1, 8-0 Big Ten) defeated the visiting Wolverines, 42-28, running its winning streak to 10 games heading into next weekend’s Big Ten Championship Game against Wisconsin. But for the second time this season, the Buckeyes will have to press forward without a Heisman Trophy-contending back.

“We lost a Heisman candidate today,” said OSU coach Urban Meyer, whose team lost another Heisman candidate, Braxton Miller, in August to shoulder surgery. “That was a sick feeling.”

Barrett was injured on a run up the middle where he was stood up and pulled backward. Barrett, who finished the season with 2,834 yards passing, 938 yards

quarter- rushing and 45 total touchdowns, lay motionless on his back with his arms spread out wide as medical personnel worked on him.

Meyer walked out to check on Barrett, but wasn’t there long, turning and bowing his head as he headed back to Ohio State’s sideline in apparent disappointment.

Barrett gave a wave to the crowd as a cart wheeled him off to the locker room.
