Rocker Edgar Winter will take the stage in Lorain in a concert added to the Rockin’ on the River series this summer.

The Edgar Winter Band, known for hits including “Free Ride” and “Frankenstein,” will perform Aug. 25 with Cleveland’s Breakfast Club opening. Tickets are $10 in advance and $17 on the day of the show.

The show, announced July 26, will be the seventh in August and brings the total to 21 shows for summer 2016.

For some fans, Winter may be best known for his breakout song “Tobacco Road” and his hits “Frankenstein” and “Free Ride,” from the double platinum album “They Only Come Out at Night.”

Winter was the first to use a strap to play his keyboard across his body, allowing him to move on stage, and was the first rock ‘n’ roll artist to use a synthesizer as the main instrument in a song, said Rockin’ on the River organizer Bob Earley.

“He’s like a genius in some of the things that he does,” Earley said. “To get him was a real thrill for us. He’s a musician’s musician. He’s so respected for his instrumentation and what he can do.”

The show will be limited to 3,000 tickets sold, Earley said. “To see Edgar Winter for $10 is the deal of the century,” he said.

Apart from his 1970s hits, Winter is a prolific writer Winter whose music has appeared in movies and nationally broadcast television shows and TV and radio advertisements. His music has been used in at least 15 film and television projects, according to his official biography.

Winter also has played with former Beatle Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band.

“Edgar Winter’s live shows consistently receive rave reviews,” according to his official bio. “His music is always evolving and he is a master at stretching his skill and imagination to produce amazing results.
