Source: Fitzpatrick gets $12M from Jets

-

A person familiar with the negotiations says the New York Jets have resigned Ryan Fitzpatrick to a one-year deal worth $12 million, ending months of speculation and uncertainty surrounding the team’s quarterback spot.

Fitzpatrick set the franchise record with a careerhigh 31 touchdown passes last season while helping lead the Jets on a playoff push in Todd Bowles’ first season as coach.

The deal was reached July 27, according to the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the signing.

Terrell Suggs is convinced he still has a few more sacks left in him, even though he’s 33 years old and coming off a torn left Achilles tendon.

Suggs was carted off the field in the 2015 season opener and still hasn’t quite fully recovered. He has been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list and won’t be in uniform July 28 when the Ravens hold their first full-team training camp practice.

He can’t wait to get back, but the man known as “TSizzle” knows it would be foolish to take any chances in July.

“I’m not going to give no timetable, but it’s not going to be long. We’re close to where we want to be,” Suggs said. “I’ll be honest with you: The Ravens side of me is like, ‘Sizz, let’s go. Let’s play some football.’ But I’ve got to be smart with it.”

Once he’s ready to roll, the six-time Pro Bowl linebacker is optimistic of being a key contributor to a perennial playoff contender that stumbled to a 5-11 finish last season.

Tom Coughlin will be joining the NFL’s football operations staff, a person with knowledge of the agreement tells The Associated Press.

The two-time Super Bowl-winning coach will work closely with Troy Vincent and with the NFL’s game-related committees in an advisory role.

Dallas defensive end Randy Gregory is facing a longer suspension over another violation of the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, and owner Jerry Jones says he doesn’t expect to see the troubled player at training camp in California.

With Gregory already suspended for the first four games this season, Jones said Wednesday that the Cowboys haven’t heard from the league about a possible 10-game ban for another failed drug test.

The Los Angeles Rams released quarterback Nick Foles on Wednesday after failing to find a trade destination for the disgruntled veteran.

The Rams announced the move one day before their veterans report to training camp.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is passing on an opportunity to go into detail about his relationship with his reality show contestantbrother.

Jordan Rodgers is one of the suitors on the ABC dating show, “The Bachelorette.” He spoke on a recent episode of being estranged from his older sibling.
