Police and court briefs Police: Man wanted for assault

Authoritie­s are searching for a man who is accused of assaulting a woman with a knife, according to a Lorain County Sheriff’s Office media release.

Around 10:20 a.m., Aug. 25, sheriff’s deputies responded to the 300 block of East 45th Street in Sheffield Township. On scene, deputies learned Jon McCann, 29, had assaulted his live-in girlfriend, as well as another female, the release said.

The assault of the girlfriend was overheard on the phone by the other female, according to the release. When the second female victim arrived at the house, the male suspect cut her with a knife, it said.

The suspect fled on foot before deputies arrived, the release said. The Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service are continuing efforts to locate the suspect. The man will be made the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force Fugitive of the Week on Aug. 29, according to Tony Keffer, task force coordinato­r for Lorain and Erie County.

Once arrested, he will be charged with attempted murder, felonious assault and domestic violence, the release said.

The victim who was cut with a knife was taken to Mercy hospital in Lorain before being transferre­d to MetroHealt­h Medical Center in Cleveland for further treatment. Her condition is unknown at this time, the release said.
