City of Lorain’s downfall explained

-

Looking at the YouTube video circulating Facebook about an industrial history of Lorain made me sad. The video shows a thriving American industrial complex of industries. The shipyard, the giant ore boats in Lorain harbor, railroads, the U.S. Steel mill, Ford Motor Co., mixed with closed buildings and plants around town.

What happened to Lorain? Some may say the unions, some may say taxes, some may not care or say. I say Americans gave up on America. We bought foreign-made cars to the point that plants are being built in the Southern U.S., foreign-made clothes, pants, shirts and ties, foreign-made sheets and pillow cases, foreign-made toys for our children and foreign-made steel. Go down 28th Street and really look at the mill that made the pipe for Alaskan Pipeline and other great accomplishments.

We were going to get rich buying cheap! Lorain has two industries still going strong. Crime and politics. Neither build plants, open new storefronts, pay for school buildings, but both create poverty.

Routes 2 and 90 should have been built through the middle of Lorain, maybe we would be getting a new car dealership, restaurant or a truck stop.

The great city of Lorain is a crying wreck. Garon Petty Lorain
