Supreme Court rules attorney in contempt

Lawyer suspended from traffic stop

Lorain attorney Mark Provenza was ruled in contempt of court for failing to file needed records to the Ohio Supreme Court, according to a Supreme Court ruling from Sept. 30.

The court on June 2 ordered Provenza to file an affidavit of compliance on or before July 5, according to the Supreme Court ruling.

On June 2, Provenza was suspended from the practice of law, according to the Ohio Supreme Court.

While awaiting a court ruling on discipline, on April 7, Provenza was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug parapherna­lia, driving under suspension and having fictitious plates, according to the Ohio Supreme Court.

The charges stemmed from a traffic stop in Lorain, according to Supreme Court records. Provenza later pleaded no contest to charges in Lorain Municipal Court, according to municipal court records.

Provenza formerly was a law director for the city of Lorain and he ran for City Council.
