Church to host community baby shower

- By Keith Reynolds

Great Lakes Church, 600 Shupe Ave., in Amherst, will be holding a community baby shower from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 8 as part of its Love a Life Ministry, according to a news release.

The focus of the shower will be to encourage and support single, expectant mothers from the community. A shower was previously held in May that helped 16 expectant mothers. The ministry is holding this shower to help mothers who are due in the fall and winter, the release said.

As part of the shower, area experts will be on hand to host breakout sessions providing information to guests about what to expect when their child arrives. The sessions will include topics such as breastfeeding, infant safety, car seat safety and rules, postpartum depression signs and tips, breathing techniques and postpartum self-care for mothers, the release said.

The shower will also feature a raffle for large baby items as well as shopping at the Great Lake Church’s clothing pantry. Each guest will leave with a gift basket for mothers-to-be and baby essentials, the release said.

Love a Life is a safe, nonjudging place for young women to turn when they find out they are pregnant. The ministry’s mission is to support, encourage and love who face unplanned pregnancies in the community, the release said.

Space is limited for the event, so an RSVP is required. Mothers-to-be can register at www.greatlakeschurch.net/love-a-life or contact Katherine Smith at Katherine@greatlakeschurch.net.
