The event will feature pork chops, cabbage and noodles, cabbage rolls, German potato salad, kielbasa and kraut and homemade pies. There will also be raffles, door prizes, live music and a silent auction. The Community of Faith UCC , 9175 E. River St., Elyria, will host the event. Drama performed: Not on My Watch: The Oberlin-Wellington Rescue of 1858 will be featured. Costumed performers from the Kelton House Museum and Garden will share an original dramatic narrative that tells the story of John Price and how he escaped from the clutches of slave catchers with the help of Oberlin residents and students. Heroes and villains alike will be portrayed. Kelton House is in Columbus and is historical­ly documented to be a place fugitive slaves could find shelter on their journey to freedom the event is co-hosted by the members of Oberlin’s Mt. Zion Baptist church. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. and the performanc­e will begin at 3 p.m. Oct. 16, at House of Zion Fellowship Hall, 81 Locust St., Oberlin. Perch dinner: East Oberlin Community Church, 43709 Oberlin Elyria Road, Oberlin, will host a Lake Erie Perch Dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Oct. 7 and Oct. 21, at the church. The meal is $15 per person; $9 for children ages 6 through 12 and free for children younger than 5. Author featured: Dr. Walter Brueggeman­n, author of over 100 books, will be speaking and preaching at Avon Lake United Church of Christ on Oct. 8 and 9. His lecture on Oct. 8 is entitled, “Follow the Money”. Bluegrass band to play: The Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers, an Appalachia­n bluegrass band, will perform at 4 p.m. Oct. 16 at The First Church in Oberlin, UCC, 106 N. Main St. The Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers draw freely from old-time, bluegrass, country, jazz, rockabilly and swing styles to create their tight, high-energy string band music. Wellcrafte­d original songs with emotional depth, masterful picking, and resonant vocal harmonies combine to forge new territorie­s and a fresh take on Appalachia­n Americana music. This performanc­e is part of the Music at the Meeting House concert series, and is free and open to the public. Clambake: Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church, 3335 E. 33rd St., Lorain, will host a Clambake or Chicken Dinner from noon to 3 p.m., Oct. 2, at the Church Hall. Advance tickets will be sold Sept. 25 at the Church Hall from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Clambake cost is $25 and includes 1 dozen clams, ½ chicken, baked potato, corn cob, coleslaw plus dessert. Bratwurst with all the toppings, sauerkraut and homemade German potato salad will be served. The evening will include polka music, 50⁄50 raffle and sideboards.
