The race for The Morning Journal high school football player of the year is entering the final stages. Check out who is in the running heading into the penultimate week of the regular season.
• Dontae Beckett, Elyria, Jr.: Was 6-for-12for 53yards and an interception, adding 126 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries and a 17-yard reception, in a 46-28loss to Solon. For the season, Beckett is 64-for-107-for 800yards, four touchdowns and 10interceptions. He has added 800yards and 10 touchdowns on 188carries and a receiving touchdown.
• Trey Bialowas, Westlake, Sr.: Was 17-for-22for 286 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, adding 37 yards on nine carries, in a 5237win over North Ridgeville. For the season, Bialowas is 129-for-231for 1,917yards, 23touchdowns and seven interceptions, adding 508 yards and seven touchdowns on 100carries.
• Carlos Chavis, Lorain, Sr.: Rushed 26times for 160yards and three touchdowns in a 44-22win over Maple Heights. For the season, Chavis has 997yards and 11touchdowns on 148carries, adding an interception and two blocked kicks on defense. • Dameon Crawford, Rocky River, Jr.: Rushed 43times for 342yards and three touchdowns in a 31-13win over Parma. For the season, Crawford has 1,365yards and 17touchdowns on 165carries, adding a receiving touchdown and a defensive interception.
• Dustin Crum, Midview, Sr.: Was 11-for-18for 147 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, adding 127 yards and a touchdown on 14carries, in a 56-7win over Lakewood. For the season, Crum is 111-for-186for 1,729 yards, 21touchdowns and five interceptions, adding 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns on 140carries.
• Daryl Davis, Elyria Catholic, Sr.: Rushed 12times for 31yards and two touchdowns in a 56-7win over Normandy. For the season, Davis has 900 yards and 15touchdowns on 185carries.
• Nick Denney, Firelands, Jr.: Rushed five times for five yards in a 38-14loss to Buckeye. For the season, Denney has 1,086yards and 13touchdowns on 108carries, adding two receiving touchdowns, three interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and a fumble returned for a touchdown on defense.
• Keith Johnson, Midview, Sr.: Caught four passes for 55 yards and a touchdown in a 56-7win over Lakewood. For the season, Johnson has 40 receptions for 849yards and 10touchdowns.
• Spencer Linville, Olmsted Falls, Sr.: Rushed 24times for 129yards and a touchdown in a 29-28win over Avon Lake. For the season, Linville has 1,088yards and 15touchdowns on 185carries.
• Johnny Matakovich, Amherst, Sr.: Was 8-for-11 for 108yards and an interception in a 30-0loss to Avon. For the season, Matakovich is 75-for-141for 1,196yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions, adding 226 rushing yards and a touchdown on 64carries.
• Mason McLemore, Avon, Sr.: Rushed 19times for 97 yards and a touchdown in a 30-0win over Amherst. For the season, McLemore has 828yards and 10touchdowns on 118carries and three receiving touchdowns.
• Mark Pappas, Avon Lake, Sr.: Was 19-for-31for 294 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in a 29-28 loss to Olmsted Falls. For the season, Pappas is 143-for-230-for 2,108yards, 21touchdowns and eight interceptions.
• Connor Sterneckert, Westlake, Sr.: Caught six passes for 86yards in a 52-37 win over North Ridgeville. For the season, Sterneckert has 43receptions for 672yards and 10touchdowns.
• Carson Toy, Avon Lake, Sr.: Caught eight passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns in a 29-28loss to Olmsted Falls. For the season, Toy has 777yards and 10touchdowns on 44receptions, a rushing touchdown, a pair of twopoint conversion receptions and five interceptions.
• Shomari Williams, North Ridgeville, Jr.: Rushed 34 times for 127yards and three touchdowns in a 52-37loss to Westlake. For the season, Williams has 1,047yards and 11 touchdowns on 207carries.
