OHP: Elyria man dies in car crash

A fatal crash that occurred in Carlisle Township on Oct. 20 is under investigation by the Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, according to a release from the post.

Bart S. Burrer, 58, of West Ridge Road in Elyria, had died by the time troopers and emergency medical personnel arrived on scene, the release said.

The post received a report of a vehicle versus tree crash at 10:11 a.m.

An initial investigation revealed Burrer was headed north on West Ridge Road, north of Russia Road in a 2001 GMC Suburban, the release stated.

The vehicle slowed and drifted left of center before traveling off the west side of the road, according to the release.

From there, Burrer continued traveling until colliding head-on with a tree and coming to a final rest, according to the release.

There we no signs of braking or any other evasive action between the roadway and the tree, the release said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected factors in the crash, accordingto the release.

It also said Burrer was wearing his seat belt.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
