Local students earn merit scholarships

Students from the area were among more than 400 first-year students welcomed to the Baldwin Wallace University campus this fall who claimed $5.2 million in merit scholarships for their outstanding high school achievements.

BW’s merit scholarships are awarded to full-time students and are renewable up to four years with good academic and social standing. BW grants a wide range of scholarships to current students each year.

Including merit and need-based scholarships, BW students received over $41 million in financial support from the University for the 2016-2017 academic year.

The following local students were awarded merit scholarships:

• Ted Achladis, of Avon Lake, a graduate of Elyria Catholic High School, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Devin Adler, of Wellington, a graduate of Wellington Senior High School majoring in biology, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Rachel Alloway, of Lorain, a graduate of Marion L. Steele High School, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship.

• Anna Anikienko, of Lagrange, a graduate of Keystone High School, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship.

• Hannah Bachna, of Amherst, a graduate of Marion L. Steele High School majoring in biology, earned a $13,000 Trustees Scholarship.

• Robert Becker, of South Amherst, a graduate of Firelands High School majoring in sport management, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Brooke Buckhannon, of Collins, a graduate of Western Reserve High School majoring in public relations, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Sarah Bush, of North Ridgeville, a graduate of North Ridgeville High School majoring in history, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship.

• Michael Carbon, of Westlake, a graduate of St. Edward High School majoring in neuroscience chemistry and chemistry, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Idriana Cardona, of Lorain, a graduate of Elyria High School majoring in biology, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Matthew Clark, of North Ridgeville,a graduate of North Ridgeville High School majoring in accounting and innovation & entrepreneurship, earned a $13,000 Trustees Scholarship.

• Emily Cooper, of North Olmsted, a graduate of North Olmsted High School majoring in prephysical therapy, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Cassidy Costin, of Avon Lake , a graduate of Avon Lake High School majoring in creative writing, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship.

• Samantha Dean, of Vermilion, a graduate of Vermilion High School majoring in French, earned a $13,000 Trustees Scholarship.

• Jeffrey Dickson, of Avon, a graduate of Avon High School, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship.

• Shaun Dillon, of North Ridgeville, a graduate of North Ridgeville High School majoring in theatre acting and directing, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship.

• Nickolaus Eichenlaub, of Norwalk, a graduate of Norwalk High School majoring in computer science, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Abrianna Finical, of North Ridgeville, a graduate of North Ridgeville High School majoring in sociology, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

•Laura Frost, of Westlake, a graduate of Saint Joseph Academy, earned a $13,000 Trustees Scholarship.

• Tiffany Gomez, of Lorain, a graduate of Marion L. Steele High School majoring in neuroscience psychology and psychology, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Rustin Hanson, of Westlake, a graduate of Westlake High School majoring in film studies, earned a $13,000 Trustees Scholarship.

• Madlynn Hemeyer, of Litchfield, a graduate of Buckeye Senior High School majoring in international business, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship.

• Kyle Hermann, of Avon, a graduate of Avon High School majoring in chemistry, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship.

• Kendall Hogan, of North Olmsted, a graduate of North Olmsted High School majoring in psychology, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Samantha Hritz, of Valley City,a graduate of Buckeye Senior High School majoring in education with a focus on mild/ moderate educational needs, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Nicholas Irwin, of Westlake, a graduate of Westlake High School majoring in computer science and physics, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship.

•Jocelyn Joseph, of Bay Village, a graduate of Bay High School majoring in psychology and public health, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Angela Knick, of Lorain, a graduate of Clearview High School majoring in music education, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship.

• Alexandria Kozich, of Avon, a graduate of Avon High School majoring in neuroscience biology and biology, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship.

• Andrew Liller, of Grafton, a graduate of Midview High School majoring in business administration, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.

• Andrew McBride, of Sheffield Village, a graduate of North Olmsted High School, earned a $13,000 Trustees Scholarship.

• Carson Moen, of Elyria , a graduate of Lorain County Early College High School majoring in film studies, earned an $11,000 Deans Scholarship.
