City moved closer to motel demolition

Demolition is getting closer for two of the four motels that were trouble spots in Lorain, according to city officials.

On March 20, Lorain City Council voted 10-0 to award a contract to knock down Erieview Motel, 2800 W. Erie Ave., and Shoreway Motel, 3945 W. Erie Ave.

“It’s well past due, thank you guys very, very much,” said Council-woman-atLarge Mary Springowski. “I appreciate everything that you guys are doing with getting those down. They’re horrible.”

The motels have become a two-year project in Lorain.

The legal process takes time for the city to acquire the property titles, examine the structures for asbestos and other hazardous materials, and bid out the job, said Mayor Chase Ritenauer.

The city will use Community Development Block Grants to pay for the work.

The contractor will be B & B Wrecking & Excavating Inc. The project cost will be $85,553.
