Local business burglarized

-

More than $2,000 missing from a Lorain business has police looking for a suspect, according to a Lorain police report.

Around 9:22 a.m., March 28, officers responded to the business located in the 1300 block of East 28th Street.

Upon speaking with the owner, officers learned the business was entered after closing at 6 p.m., March 27, the report said.

The suspect gained access by cutting a hole in the building’s metal siding. Surveillance footage showed about 9:25 p.m., the suspect entered the office and ultimately took $2,600, according to the report.

The owner recognized the suspect as an employee’s brother-in-law, who he recently employed for a couple of weeks, the report said.

Neither the owner nor the employee who is the suspect’s brother-in-law knew the suspect’s name, according to the report.

The employee claimed the suspect was from Massachusetts and had stayed at his home after arriving in town about three weeks ago, the report said. The employee claimed he hadn’t seen the suspect, who said he needed to return to Massachusetts, since March 25, according to the report.

The suspect was described as a light-skinned male with a beard who was wearing a light-colored, hooded sweatshirt, lightcolored sweat pants, black gloves and black and white tennis shoes.

Those involved were advised to contact the Lorain Police Department should additional information become available.
