City to advertise bids for Lake Breeze Road infrastructure upgrades

- By Kevin Martin

Sheffield Lake City Council on March 28 approved an ordinance to advertise bids for upgrades to the city’s water system on Lake Breeze Road later this year.

The city is in the process of applying for funding to replace the water main on Lake Breeze and will install GIS mapping of the city water system, officials said.

Council has approved a plan to seek funding from the Ohio Water Development Authority.

Law Director David Graves said doing so will allow the city time to prepare and attain the lowest possible bid.

The project is expected to cost $545,935 for the water main replacement and $80,000 for GIS mapping.

Any bids received will be contingent on the approval of funding.

The city already has secured funding from the Ohio Public Works Commission for asphalt repaving of Lake Breeze to take place after the infrastructure upgrades are completed.

Lake superintendent Pat Hastings said the total cost of the upgrades to Lake Breeze would approach $1 million.

In other Council business, Sheffield Lake will consider joining other cities in a lawsuit against the state of Ohio over Senate Bill 331.

The state legislation prohibits municipalities from regulating cell phone towers and Avon and Avon Lake recently joined a suit, Graves said.

Hastings said there are three towers in the area and he expressed concerns over the tower’s owners not engaging the community and business owners about their placement.

Council will consider legislation in the near future on joining the suit, officials said.
