Lorain JVS 10th-grade students gain real world experience
Tenth-grade students are gaining real world experience in a program lab of their choice, every quarter, at Lorain County JVS. As ninth-graders, the students get a general overview of what the career technical labs have to offer, and as tenth graders, they select four different career tech areas to try out first hand.
Erik Suckow from Wellington, and Kevin Marcero from Midview are both interested in the manufacturing field. During the first quarter of this school year, they both took part in the Computerized Design and Drafting program. During their time in this program they had the opportunity to design a hammer head using CAD software.
As the second quarter approached, they both signed up for the Precision Machine Technology program and were able to bring their hammer head design to life using a lathe.
Kyle Alpine, PMT senior from North Ridgeville, worked alongside the two tenth graders to assist them and show them the ropes in the PMT lab.

instructor, is excited to have so many 10th-graders interested in the manufacturing field. Green has had numerous ninth- and 10th grade students show an interest and follow the PMT program all the way through.
He currently has four seniors who started out at the JVS in the ninth grade and are now successfully working in the manufacturing field, gaining that real world experience career technical education offers.
Tyler Chandley is working at Forest City Technologies; Jacob Owen is at Kalt Manufacturing, Cameron Rose is at General Plug & Manufacturing, and RuthAnn Freeman worked in the field during her junior year and is excited to get back out in the field after graduation in May.
