-

An Avon lake woman accused of driving drunk in Bay Village was arrested during the early morning hours March 31, according to a news release from the Bay Village Police Department.

Around 1:34 a.m., an officer passed a Mazda 6 traveling slowly on a flat tire headed north on Glen Park Drive toward Lake Road. The release said the officer turned around and caught up with the vehicle once it was westbound on Lake Road.

The officer initiated a traffic stop near Douglas Drive, but as he exited his cruiser to approach the 26-year-old Avon Lake woman, she began backing her car toward the cruiser. According to the release, the officer had to yell out several times before the driver stopped about 2 feet away from impact.

The woman was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests and was told she could remove her shoes, which had about a 3-inch heel. The release said she then asked the officer, “You got my slippers?”

Upon failing the sobriety tests, the woman was taken into custody and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, blood alcohol content greater than .17, open container inside a motor vehicle and operating an unsafe vehicle, according to Bay Village police Lt. Calvin Holliday. The woman was processed at the department before being released on a personal bond to a sober adult.
