-

Amherst police have identified and charged five males in connection to more than five instances of criminal damaging at the Beaver Creek Hunt Club, 48430 Cooper Foster Park Road, according to Detective Sgt. Michael Murphy.

Alexander Mawson, 18, of Lorain, was charged with 18 counts of criminal damaging and five counts of criminal trespassing, Murphy said.

Mawson admitted to being at the majority of the incidents, which date back to July 2016, and then bringing friends back with him, Murphy said.

Mawson and Trent Sayers, 18, of Amherst, were among those arrested March 29 when live-feed cameras set up by the hunt club caught the males in the act.

Murphy said three juveniles — a 17-year-old Lorain teen, a 17-year-old Amherst Township teen and a 12-year-old Lorain boy — also were charged in connection to the crimes.

Sayers was charged with one count of criminal trespassing and two counts of criminal damaging. The Amherst Township teen was charged with five counts of criminal damaging and one count of criminal trespassing; the Lorain teen was charged with three counts of criminal damaging and one count of criminal trespassing; and the Lorain boy was charged with two counts of criminal damaging and one count of criminal trespassing.

Murphy said the total amount of damage, which included broken items and graffiti, was valued at more than $8,000. He said all suspects involved were cooperative and admitted to their involvement.
