Theft victim spots and recovers stolen shoes

An Elyria man has recovered his custom-made shoes taken during in a home burglary after spotting the alleged thief wearing them, and other items.

According to Captain Chris Costantino of the Elyria police, on April 3 the victim reported a theft at his home in the 200 block of Lexington Avenue after he noticed a few items were missing including a MacBook Air , a PS4 video game console including about 10 games, two weapons and two pairs of shoes.

After arriving home at about 5:30 p.m. the victim noticed the garage open. Some areas of the home had been ransacked and it was clear to the victim someone had rifled through his personal effects, Costantino said.

One pair of the shoes were custom made and specially ordered for him as a gift from his wife. The grey and white Kyrie shoes were embroidere­d with the number 17 as well as the victim’s initials, Costantino said.

On April 4 at about 12:30 p.m. the victim contacted Elyria police while driving on West River Road near Fox Hill Lane and stated he noticed two males walking and recognized an Adidas sweatshirt that resembled one he owned. When he got closer he recognized one of the individual­s wearing the custom embroidere­d shoes taken from his home in addition to a wristwatch, Costantino said.

Jeremy Krugman, 30, of Elyria was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property. He is currently being held at the Lorain County Jail and will appear in Elyria Municipal Court.

Elyria police said the investigat­ion is onging.
