Crash leaves pair in critical condition
A 25-year-old man and a 17-year-old female were in critical condition following a two-car crash.
A 25-year-old man and a 17-year-old female were in critical condition following a two-car crash April 6 on the Henderson Bridge in Lorain.
Lorain police and LifeCare arrived on scene at about 12:15 p.m. and the male driver of a silver car was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland with extensive facial injuries along with the teen passenger, according to officer Robert Hargreaves.
A third passenger in the car, a 19-year-old male, was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
According to Herb de la Porte, vice president of LifeCare Ambulance Service, the driver and the female passenger were transported by ground to MetroHealth and were in critical condition.
Hargreaves said the silver vehicle was traveling across the bridge toward the east side when it
crossed the center line due to speed and began sliding out of control, striking a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup.
The truck was occupied by a 66-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman who, according to de la Porte, were transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain with non life-threatening
injuries.
After striking the truck, the silver vehicle hit the north side guard rail before striking the south side guard rail on the other side of the bridge, according to reports.
After attempting to flee, Hargreaves said Lorain police were able to track the
instigating vehicle to an address in the 1700 block of Iowa Avenue.
Hargreaves said the crash was caused by a combination of speed as well as drugs and/or alcohol and he expects the driver of the silver vehicle to face charges.
The investigation is ongoing, he said.
