Did you Miss the North Coast Building Industry Association Home Show???

- Submitted by Judie Docs, Executive Officer, North Coast BIA CSP, MCSP, CGP, CMP, MIRM Judie Docs

Though it’s not quite a return to boom times, the 1,226,000 new homes built last year was the most since 2007. Add in the fact that Americans are projected to spend a near-record $317 billion on home improvement this year, and the housing industry is clearly on its most solid footing in years.

Did you miss our home show?

In attendance, we had remodelers that can coordinate a larger remodel, or if you just want new kitchen or bath cabinets, appliances, new roof, gutters, windows, garage doors, updated electrical and/or plumbing. We had exhibitors that can make your home safer and healthier, along with banks that can help you make this all happen. We featured a “tiny home” and net-zero energy home builder, and just for fun some direct sale vendors such as Kernel Foster’s Popcorn, LuLaRoe, Tupperware, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Scentsy and the Cameo Pizza food truck.

That translated into plenty of energy and excitement at the North Coast BIA’s Home Show this past weekend at the Emerald Event Center in Avon. The event highlighted many of our members including our sponsors: Coates Brothers Roofing, Community Star Credit Union, Sliman’s Lumber and Stewart’s TV and Appliance. There were speakers with topics that spoke about interior design, flooring trends and fire safety. WEOL broadcasted live interviewing several of our exhibitors.

Smart Home Technology Grows Up

We’ve been watching the smart home trend build for several years now, and it seems to be reaching critical mass. In 2017, 33 percent of homes are expected to have at least one connected device.

Home security systems and security cameras are among the most desired smart tech features to consider, including: door & window opening detectors, motion detectors, wireless keyfob activation smoke and heat detectors, water and sump pump monitors, low temperature detectors, cellular monitoring and personal emergency buttons. We have a member for this! – BCT Alarm Services, Inc.

For your electronics and appliance needs Stewart’s TV and Appliance offers everything from the modest to state-ofthe-art choices. They showcased the Apple TV at our show which is a small network appliance and entertainment device that can receive digital data from a number of source and stream it to a capable television.
