A 33-year-old Lorain father accused of leaving his three children alone and locked outside of their home is facing two counts of endangering children, according to Lorain Municipal Court records.

Mark Anthony Cheers, of West 13th Street, was arrested on a warrant April 12, four days after the alleged incident, according to a Lorain police report.

Court records show Cheers maintained his innocence April 13 at his arraignment hearing.

Around 11:15 a.m., April 8, officers responded to the 700 block of Brownell Avenue in reference to three children between the ages of five and seven left at their mother’s home unattended, the report said.

The 26-year-old mother is who called police and said Cheers was watching the children while she was at work, but no longer wanted to.

The woman immediately left her job and police responded and found the children standing next to the home looking frightened and ready to cry, the report said. Officers confirmed all doors to the home were locked and waited on scene for the children’s mother to arrive.

The mother told police Cheers knew she couldn’t leave her job as a home health aide until her shift ended at 1 p.m., the report said.

Cheers sent the text message “yo kids is on yo porch” after dropping them off, the report said.

According to court records, Cheers is set to appear May 17 in Lorain Municipal Court for a pretrial hearing.
