Forum offers intervention advice
An education forum and resource fair will offer advice to family members on drug addiction at 6:30 p.m. May 1 at Christ Church Ohio, 1420 S. Abbe Road in Elyria.
According to a news release from Elyria City Schools:
“America’s Invisible Thief” features special guest speaker Jim Joyner of Joyner and Associates LLC, who is a licensed independent chemical dependency counselor and clinical supervisor.
Joyner offers insights into addiction, and discusses signs and symptoms of harmful drug use. He speaks to the impact of addiction on family members and offers ways they can respond.
Also, he addresses prevention and importance of educating children, families and the community on the drug crisis.
In addition, a guest presenter will tell a personal story of addiction and recovery.
The forum includes first responders, law enforcement agencies, resources for help and information on prescription drug drop-off locations, treatment and counseling.
Doors open at 6 p.m. The fair will be staffed by professionals from The LCADA Way, Communities That Care/ADAS Board, UH Elyria Medical Center, Let’s Get Real and Solace.
Guests are eligible to win door prizes such as a drug safe or a book, “How to Raise a Drug-free Kid.” Refreshments are provided.
The event is sponsored by Elyria City Schools and key agencies and first responders in Elyria and in Lorain County.
