Amherst residents present projects

• Samantha Malloy of Amherst, who is enrolled in the Honors Program at Heidelberg University, presented her senior Honors project this week.

Malloy, who is majoring in Health Science, presented her research on the topic “Biological Warfare: History and Future Threats.” The presentati­on is the culminatio­n of Honors Program requiremen­ts before graduation on May 14.

Each Honors student, during the senior year, works with a faculty mentor to complete a capstone project that derives from their major field of study. The research project is designed to individual­ize and deepen their understand­ing of a topic of compelling interest in his/her major.

• Kyrsten Lilly of Amherst, who is enrolled in the Honors Program at Heidelberg University, presented her senior Honors project this week.

Lilly, who is majoring in Biology and Psychology, presented her research on the topic “The Playwright Experience.” The presentati­on is the culminatio­n of Honors Program requiremen­ts before graduation on May 14.

This semester, a total of 24 Heidelberg students presented their senior Honors projects from April 25-27. Heidelberg’s Honors Program, titled “The Life of the Mind,” empowers the most outstandin­g students to explore their abilities within a supportive community of scholars and learners. The program is comprised of four intellectu­al areas: the Scholar, the Scientist, the Artist and the Citizen.
