Man in trouble again amid sexual battery case

- By Kelsey Leyva

A 44-year-old LaGrange man, who is set to plead and receive punishment next month in a sexual battery case, has found himself in trouble again, according to a LaGrange police report.

Mark A. Febel, of Forest Street, was arrested and charged with domestic violence, unlawful restraint and felony abduction following an incident that allegedly took place during the early morning hours April 30.

At 1:38 a.m., the 43-yearold female victim arrived at the LaGrange Police Department with a Lorain County sheriff’s deputy, the report said.

The woman explained she and Febel live at the same residence. Upon arriving home around midnight, the victim explained Febel exited the home, approached her aggressively, physically lifted her into the back seat and then drove from the residence, according to the report.

The victim said she tried to exit the vehicle, but Febel prevented her from doing so by grabbing her hair and smacking her in the face, the report said.

Febel drove the woman to her sister’s home on Kensington Drive in Eaton Township, according to the report. Febel then was taken from the area by his daughter.

An accompanying report filed by the Sheriff’s Office said the victim’s face was extremely red and there was blood underneath her right ear upon initial contact.

A clump of the victim’s hair, which she claimed was ripped out by Febel, also was submitted as evidence as LaGrange police handled the charges and arrest.

Febel was arrested by LaGrange police and booked into the Lorain County Jail. Elyria Municipal Court records show Febel maintained his innocence at his arraignment May 1 and has a pretrial scheduled for May 5.

Lorain County Common Pleas Court records show Febel has a June 1 court appearance in relation to a sexual battery case that dates back to December 2015.

The Morning Journal previously reported Febel was accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a female student at Keystone High School.

On Dec. 12, 2015, officers came across a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a LaGrange church and found Febel and a female student inside.

Authorities previously said an investigation revealed the pair had sexual contact before the student turned 18.

Febel briefly served as a personal trainer with the Keystone High School football team, school officials previously said.
