Charles signs with Denver

-

Jamaal Charles, the Kansas City Chiefs’ alltime rushing leader, has signed with the AFC West rival Denver Broncos.

“Excited to have Jamaal Charles join the Broncos,” General Manager John Elway tweeted Tuesday afternoon upon signing Charles to a oneyear, incentive-laden deal. “A great addition to our backfield, and we’re thrilled we won’t have to play against him!”

The Chiefs cut the 30-year-old running back in a cost-cutting move this winter. He played in just eight games over the last two seasons after tearing his right ACL in October 2015.

Charles ran for 7,260 yards and 43 touchdowns in nine seasons with the Chiefs, who ended Denver’s five-year run as division champs last year.

RED SOX APOLOGIZE TO

ADAM JONES >> Red Sox President Sam Kennedy is apologizing for fans taunting Orioles center fielder Adam Jones with racial slurs.

Kennedy also apologized Tuesday for a fan throwing peanuts at Jones on Monday night. He says the organization is “sickened by the conduct of an ignorant few.”

Jones, who is black, said he was “called the Nword a handful of times” in quotes reported by USA Today Sports and the Boston Globe.

“It’s unfortunate that people need to resort to those type of epithets to degrade another human being,” Jones said.

The five-time All-Star said he has been the subject of racist heckling in Boston’s ballpark before, but this was one of the worst cases of fan abuse he has heard in his 12year career, according to USA Today Sports.

USA Today Sports reported that Red Sox officials confirmed that a fan threw a bag of peanuts at Jones and was ejected from the stadium.

RANGERS GET FIRST WIN

OF SERIES >> Mats Zuccarello had a goal and an assist to lead the Rangers to a 4-1 victory over the Senators on Tuesday night, cutting New York’s deficit to 2-1 in the Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Michael Graber, Rick Nash and Oscar Lindberg also scored, and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 26 shots for the Rangers. New York has won three straight playoff games at Madison Square Garden after losing six straight on home ice, including Game 3 of the first round against Montreal.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau, who had four goals in Ottawa’s 6-5 double-overtime win in Game 2, scored again for the Senators, and Craig Anderson finished with 26 saves. Game 4 is Thursday night.

CROSBY HAS CONCUSSION

Pittsburgh star Sidney Crosby has been diagnosed with a concussion and is out for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinal against Washington.

Crosby left in the first period of Monday night’s 3-2 overtime loss to Washington after getting cross-checked in the head by Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen.

Niskanen received a five-minute major and a game misconduct. The league decided against holding a hearing to determine whether the hit should be subject to review from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety. Niskanen said following the game the hit was not intentional.

Crosby has dealt with multiple concussions during his career, including one against Washington in the 2011 Winter Classic that he needed nearly two years to fully recover from. The twotime MVP also missed the first couple weeks of this season with a concussion but returned to lead the NHL in goals.

The Penguins lead the series 2-1. Game 4 is Wednesday night.
