Radiology director receives top award

Michelle Dossa, director of radiology for UH Elyria Medical Center, has received the Kevin C. Martin Leadership Award.

Michelle Dossa, director of radiology for UH Elyria Medical Center, has received the 2016 Kevin C. Martin Leadership Award, according to a news release from Charlotte Wray, president of University Hospitals Elyria.

Developed in 2005 as part of the hospital’s Rewards and Appreciation program, this annually distributed honor recognizes leaders who consistently demonstrate the values that are essential to the organization’s success, the release said.

The award was named for Kevin C. Martin, the late president and CEO of UH Elyria Medical Center from 1998 until February 2009, when he succumbed to cancer.

Dossa is responsible for oversight of the daily operations of all sites that provide imaging services for the hospital, including locations in Elyria, Amherst and Avon. A staff of 110 employees report to her, according to the release.

The fact that Kevin C. Martin Leadership Award winners are nominated by their staff members or peers holds special meaning for its recipients, Dossa said in the release.

“To me, that is the most gratifying part of receiving this award,” she said. “As a leader, it’s important to encourage your staff to be the best they can be, so they can grow their careers.

“This award affirms that my staff feels they can flourish under my leadership, and for that, I’m humbled and honored.”

According to the nomination form submitted by one of her staff members and mentioned in the release, “Michelle is a great role model for her staff. She is always looking to improve patient care. Those that report to her are very grateful for the opportunities she provides for them to take on new challenges, improve and develop.”

Dossa has been with UH Elyria Medical Center for 11 years. She is a certified radiologic technologist and recently completed her doctorate degree in organizational leadership.
