Police: Shots fired in Lorain apartment

-

A 26-year-old Lorain man is accused of shooting a gun inside an apartment with six other people present.

According to a Lorain Police Report:

About 12:49 a.m. May 21 police were called to Oakwood Park Apartments on E. 42nd St. in Lorain for a shots fired complaint.

Gathering information from people at the apartment was limited because of a language barrier.

But police were told the man had the gun in the kitchen area. They told the people to go down the stairs to a safe area.

Police could not see inside the apartment. They yelled twice for the man to come out with his hands up, then heard a sound “like someone racking the slide on a handgun.”

The male moved into the doorway, but showed only one hand.

An officer tased the man and handcuffed him.

While patting him down, police allegedly found a box of ammunition in his pocket, and an unloaded handgun on the kitchen table.

Residents of the apartment said friends and coworkers were enjoying each others’ company when Carlos Antonio Rodriguez, 26, Beavercrest Drive, Lorain, wanted the resident to turn up the music, but she said no.

Rodriguez pulled out a Phoenix Arms Co. semi-automatic handgun and fired a shot into a bedroom floor.

He walked into the living room where a 14-yearold girl sat on a couch and he allegedly made motions like he was going to point the gun at her, so a 26-yearold Norwalk woman hit his hand and a bullet went into the kitchen floor.

Rodriguez was arrested and was charged with having weapons under disability, improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, discharging firearms, and resisting arrest.
