Police are questioning an Elyria High School student in connection to a lockdown May 22 at the school, officials said.
Elyria High School, 601 Middle Ave., was placed on lockdown after a report of some serious threat, according to police.
Police began setting up a perimeter around the school about noon May 22, officials said.
Elyria police Capt. Christopher Costantino said the building has been swept twice, but no threats have been located.
Costantino also confirmed a student was transported to the Elyria Police Department for questioning.
Police began setting up a perimeter around the school about noon May 22, officials said.
The Elyria police was on scene, as well as the Lorain Police Department, Lorain County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Amy Higgins, communications director for Elyria City Schools, gave an update about 12:50 p.m. on the situation saying the school resource officer received some kind of a threat.
Higgins said the school was placed on internal lockdown in which the students were forced to hide where they were, while police personnel searched the grounds.
She also highlighted the fact no one had been hurt and all of the students were safe.
Higgins said reports of shots fired are unfounded.
The district asked parents not to come to the school, but an information area was set up near the Mr. Hero at 506 Middle Ave.
Elyria Schools Superintendent Dr. Tom Jama also was on scene.
Higgins said students were released from Sixth Street, where teachers took attendance before dismissing them.
Parents were asked to pick up their children from the area near 506 Middle Ave.
At 2:40 p.m., staff and faculty began re-entering the premises.
