Agenda released for new academic distress commission meeting
A new Lorain Academic Distress Commission meets for the first time at 9 a.m. May 26 at a media center at Lorain High School.
According to an agenda provided by Lorain City Schools:
Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria handles a welcome and introduction at the school at 2600 Ashland Ave. in Lorain.
The role of the academic distress commission will be explained by Jim Miller, legal counsel representing the Ohio Attorney General’s office.
DeMaria will appoint a chair for the commission.
Miller will explain bylaws and ethics.
The members of the commission include Dorinda Hall, John Monteleone, Patricia O’Brien, Anthony Richardson, and Dr. Michele Soliz.
Data presentation will be handled by Dr. Chris Woolard Sr., executive director of Ohio Department of Education.
A district review summary will be presented by Dr. John Richard, deputy state superintendent of ODE.
The commission will discuss a search process to find a chief executive officer to run the district with the powers of a superintendent and a school board.
Closing remarks will be delivered by Lorain Mayor Chase Ritenauer, Lorain School Board President Tim Williams, and DeMaria.
Future meeting dates will be set; and a possible executive session is planned.
