OSU men’s lacrosse in national title game

The Ohio State men’s lacrosse team erased a five-goal deficit to beat Towson, 11-10, in a national semifinal on May 27 in Foxboro, Mass.

The Buckeyes (16-4) will face No. 1. Maryland for the national title at 1 p.m. May 29.

The Buckeyes trailed, 8-3, in the third quarter, then rallied and pulled ahead with 10:20 remaining in the game.

GLADIATORS LOSE >> The Gladiators held a fivepoint lead entering the fourth quarter, but the Brigade rallied to win, 63-60, at Baltimore. Cleveland fell to 1-6. The Gladiators next play at Washington at 7 p.m. June 3.

MLB HALL OF FAMER BUNNING

DEAD AT 85 >> Former U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning, a Hall of Fame pitcher who parlayed his sports fame into a political career as an uncompromi­sing advocate for conservati­ve causes, has died. He was 85. Bunning’s family said the ex-senator and baseball great died late May 26 of complicati­ons from a stroke suffered last October. Bunning was the patriarch of a large family that included his wife, Mary, and their nine children, 35 grandchild­ren and 21 great-grandchild­ren.

Golf SIMPSON LEADS AT COLONIAL

>> Webb Simpson shot a 3-under 67 on May 27 to break out of a crowd and take the third-round lead at the Colonial. At 9-under 201, Simpson was two strokes ahead of Danny Lee and Paul Casey after both of them made long birdie putts at the 18th hole. Stewart Cink and Kevin Kisner were three strokes off the lead. Part of a four-way tie for the 36-hole lead, Simpson went ahead alone to stay after consecutiv­e birdies to start his back nine.
