Lorain woman celebrates centennial
Friends and family gathered May 28 to celebrate the 100th birthday of Lorain resident Theresa Sedano.
The celebration came two days early as Sedano’s birthday doesn’t arrive until May 30, but her family and the staff of Anchor Lodge Retirement Village, 3756 W Erie Ave. in Lorain, just couldn’t wait to celebrate.
According to Sedano’s younger half-sister Julie DiLuciano, 83, of Lorain, Sedano was born in Uniontown, Penn. and her family moved to Ohio when she about seven or eight.
DiLuciano said Sedano was the oldest of 15 children, only three of which are still living. She said Sedano has always been a vegetarian and never smoked or drank.
“She’s one of God’s angels,” DiLuciano said. “She raised all of us. She doesn’t have an enemy in the world.”
According to DiLuciano, the family held a 90th birthday party for Sedano 10 years ago and 60 of her friends came. Also, Sedano was voted Ms. Anchor Lodge for 2017.
“She’s very, very popular,” she said.
Sedano’s other sister, Sophie Toth, 87, expressed her astonishment at her sister’s longevity.
“I can’t believe it,” she said. “She was the healthiest one of all of us.”
Sedano’s nephew traveled from Texas for the party.
Tony Separito, 50, highlighted Sedano’s kindness and piety.
“She helped raise all of her siblings,” he said. “(She’s) very spiritual. She went to mass every day for the middle 75 years of her life. (She’s) very caring, loving. (She’s) a great sister and a great friend. She flew under the radar all of her life.”
