-

An Elyria teen was arrested on allegations he threw a smoke bomb at a Broad Street business.

At 11:47 p.m., June 4, Elyria police responded to a complaint from an offduty sheriff’s deputy that a group of individuals were throwing smoke bombs at the Circle K, 402 E. Broad St., according to a police report.

The Lorain County deputy said while stopped at the Circle K, he noticed smoke coming from a black 2006 Cadillac occupied by several people parked in front of the store.

After noticing a homeless man stomping out one of the fireworks, the deputy saw several individuals inside of the vehicle lighting and throwing the fireworks in the direction of the store, the report said.

Someone threw a firework which landed near him and his vehicle, so he contacted police, according to the report.

Joshua Ramon Peake, 18, of Elyria was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and contributing to unruliness or delinquency of a child.

Peake was transported to the Lorain County Jail before posting bond early June 5.

While officers were heading to the location, the group left the scene in the Cadillac and after being pursued by the deputy. The car pulled into a residence in the 500 block of Princeton Ave.

The deputy saw several females exit the vehicle and enter the residence before a male wearing a red shirt identified as Peake exited the driver’s seat, the report said.

After Peake noticed the deputy, Peake began swearing at him and “making advances at him coming down the driveway,” according to the report.

When Elyria police arrived, they instructed Peake to walk toward the driveway with his hands up. After initially walking to the side door of the house, Peake walked to the rear of the Cadillac and immediately was placed in handcuffs, according to the report.

While officers were escorting Peake toward the police cruiser, the driver stated to police, “man weren’t you ever a kid? We were just lighting off some smoke bomb,” the report said.

Police discovered all of the females who exited the vehicle were juveniles, the report said.

Officers transported them to a house in the 1500 block of Prospect Street where they were released to a parent guardian, the report said.
