Foundry restaurant to reopen June 7
Foundry Kitchen and Bar, 525 Broad St. in Elyria, plans to open its doors June 7 after a fire forced the business to close for repairs.
About 12:10 p.m., June 4, firefighters received a call reporting an electrical fire at the Foundry, according to an Elyria Fire Department report.
When firefighters arrived, there were no flames or smoke showing, but some people already evacuated the restaurant, the report said.
The dining room was clear, but firefighters found flames in the kitchen.
A 1 ¾-inch hose was brought in for the initial attack, according to the report.
The fire was contained in the rear of the building and firefighters made a quick extinguishment, according to the report.
However, firefighters had to take out some sections of the wall and had to search to ensure the fire did not spread horizontally or vertically inside, the report said.
The search was conducted especially due to the age of the building and remodeling that took place inside, according to the report.
The exact cause remains under investigation, but the fire is not considered suspicious. It also did not appear the fire was related to any ovens or ranges used for food preparation, according to fire crews.
One firefighter suffered a strained or sprained finger while connecting a fiveinch hose to get water to a fire hydrant to a fire engine. He sought a medical examination and was not able to return to duty, but he is expected to make a full recovery, according to the Fire Department.
