Scorcher’s brings out Cavs faithful

-

Faithful Cavs fans gathered at Lorain’s Scorcher’s Bar and Grill at 900 Broadway Ave. to catch game four of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.

Despite being outplayed by Golden State and trailing three games to zero in the best of seven series, it did not stop Cavs fans from coming out to support their local team.

While the odds of making a comeback in the series may not be in Cleveland’s favor, the opportunity to enjoy some local beer and cuisine while taking in the game is enough for die-hard fans.

With Northeast Ohio in the midst of an unprecedented period of success for Cleveland-based sports franchises, sports bars like Scorcher’s are providing a local venue to enjoy successes and failures alike.

Established by brothers Dennis and Will Castro in 2001, the Lorain natives have operated Scorcher’s for the past 16 years at their Broadway Ave. location in the heart of downtown Lorain.

The sports-themed bar features more than 30 beers on tap on their “wall of drafts” ranging from local favorites to imports in addition to pub staples like their buffalo style jumbo chicken wings and unique sandwiches.

Co-owner Will Castro expressed satisfaction with the Cavs 2017 playoff run and hopes their season can continue beyond June 9.

“The playoffs have been doing really well for us. It’s going to hopefully take us up to the 18th. We’ve just got to do it today,” Castro said.

Castro expressed optimism of the Cavs chances, however even some of the most vocal bar patrons who arrived early to secure a seat at the bar were less willing to make any early predictions.

“No predictions tonight,” one man said, while enjoying a beer.

Castro said attendance has been good throughout the playoffs and with a weekend game they were expecting turnout along with other events happening in Lorain such as Rockin’ on the River and the Cabela’s National Team Championship Walleye Tournament.

“Usually everyone is last minute so it gets a little nerve wracking in the hours before. But as soon as the game starts things start going and people start piling in,” Castro said.
