Garrett expected to be ready for training camp

Top pick Myles Garrett has a sprained left foot but should be healed for the start of training camp. Injuries have kept him off of the practice field for the most part.

Rookie defensive end Myles Garrett has a sprained left foot but should be healed for the start of training camp in six weeks, a Browns spokesman said on June 17.

“After being evaluated by Browns head team physician Dr. James Voos at University Hospitals and foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson of OrthoCarolina, Myles Garrett has been diagnosed with a lateral (left) foot sprain,” the Browns spokesman said in a statement. “He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.”

Garrett, the first pick in the 2017 draft, was injured on June 14 during an 11on-11 drill. He was rushing from the right side, closing in on quarterback Brock Oswelier, when he pulled up short and went to the ground in obvious pain. He later removed his shoe and began massaging the bottom of his left foot. Garrett remained on the practice field as an observer, but was limping noticeably. He was spotted at Cleveland Hopkins Airport on June 16 wearing a walking boot on his left foot.

It has been a tough seven weeks for Garrett. He missed time during organized team activities with an injury the Browns and Garrett would not discuss, and now this. A sprained left ankle hampered his final season at Texas A&M last fall, but he played through the injury.

The Browns are counting heavily on Garrett and Emanuel Ogbah putting some bite into a pass rush that has been toothless for years.

“We’ll see in training camp when we’re all going against each other and we’ve got pads on and can really show what we can really do,” Garrett said on June 14, the first day of minicamp. “Until then, just going hard, making sure we know the plays and making sure we’re going full speed so we have the correct conditioning for when that time comes.”

Garrett was injured the next day.
