The Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of State route 511 and State route 18 in Brighton Township, according to a media release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

About 1:26 p.m., June 17, a 2013 Chevy Malibu was driving north on State route 511 and a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling west on State route 18, according to the release.

The Chevy Malibu failed to yield to a posted stop sign at the intersection of State route 18 and was struck on the passengerside by the Dodge Ram 1500, the release said.

19-year-old Elijah Ross, Pickerington, was the operator of the Malibu.

Ross did not appear to sustain any injuries as a result of the crash, the release said.

Ross’ passenger, 18-yearold Kiara Stowers, of Columbus, received fatal injuries as a result of the crash, according to the release.

Stowers was extricated by mechanical means prior to being transported to Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital, where she later died as a result of her injuries, the release said.

The Dodge Ram 1500 was operated by James Young, 34, Norwalk.

As a result of his injuries from the crash, Young was transported by Southern Lorain County EMS to Mercy Allen Hospital of Oberlin, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Agencies on scene included The Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Wellington Fire District, the Southern Lorain County EMS, and Bauer’s Towing.

Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash.

Safety restraints were used by all occupants of the vehicles.

The crash remains under investigation.
