Edmonton captain Connor McDavid has won his first Hart Trophy as the NHL’s most valuable player.

McDavid claimed the award Wednesday night at the NHL’s annual postseason awards show at T-Mobile Arena, the new home of the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.

Boston center Patrice Bergeron won the Selke Trophy for the fourth time as the NHL’s best defensive forward, and San Jose’s Brent Burns won his first Norris Trophy as the top defenseman. Toronto center Auston Matthews easily took the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie, and Columbus goalie Sergei Bobrovsky won his second Vezina Trophy.

Nashville’s David Poile was named the NHL’s top executive after the Predators’ first Western Conference title, and Columbus’ John Tortorella won the Jack Adams Award as the league’s top coach.

Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson won the Bill Masterton Trophy for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Anderson left the Senators during the season to support his wife, Nicholle, in her fight against throat cancer, but returned to become Ottawa’s career victories leader.

Calgary’s Johnny Gaudreau won the Lady Byng Trophy for sportsmanlike play.

Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa will miss the entire 2017-18 NHL season because of a progressive skin disorder.

The team announced the news on Wednesday. The 38-year-old veteran says severe side effects associated with medication to treat the skin disorder has made playing hockey next season impossible.

Hossa says he has privately been undergoing treatment for the last few years under the supervision of Chicago’s medical staff.

The Wizards will have their own team in the developmental NBA G League that will be based in Washington and begin playing in the 2018-19 season.

The Wizards announced the acquisition of the team Wednesday that will play home games at their new 5,000-seat practice facility in Southeast Washington. It’s the 27th team in the newly renamed league sponsored by Gatorade that was previously known as the NBA D League.

Last season the Wizards assigned Danuel House, Sheldon McClellan and Chris McCullough to the developmental league, split over three teams: the Delaware 87ers, Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Northern Arizona Suns

The as-yet-named new G League team will be owned and operated by Ted Leonsis’ Monumental Sports & Entertainment.

Jared Poche’ became LSU’s career wins leader, Jake Slaughter hit a three-run homer, and the Tigers eliminated Florida State from the College World Series with a 7-4 win Wednesday night.

LSU (50-18) advances to the Bracket 1 final Friday against No. 1 national seed Oregon State.

Florida State (46-23) will go home without a national title for a 22nd time. No program has as many CWS appearances without winning the championship.

Poche’ (12-3) won for the 39th time to break the record Scott Schultz set from 1992-95. He left after Quincy Nieporte and Cal Raleigh homered on consecutive pitches in the ninth. Zack Hess struck out the side for his third save.

Slaughter barely cleared the left-center fence in the second inning to make it 5-0 against Cole Sands (64). It was the freshman’s first homer since March 15 and third of the season.
