Art for propaganda: A dangerous trade
Art is social currency — a reflection of our cultural values and the human experience unique to each individual. Like a Picasso painting, fine art does not force-feed messages or promote agendas. True artists respect audiences enough to interpret meaning for themselves.
Alternatively, propaganda is agenda-driven. It’s subtlety is not in message, but in its detection. The conscience of many a nation could not recognize it, seducing weakened wills and minds — and good people — to zealotry. Joseph Goebbels, propaganda minister of the Nazi regime, knew this all too well.
