Report: George sent to Thunder

- Staff and wire reports

The Pacers have finally moved Paul George.

According to a report by ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, George was traded to the Thunder for shooting guard Victor Oladipo and forward Domantas Sabonins on Friday night, only a few hours before free agency opened.

The 27-year-old George averaged 23.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last year. He will be joining reigning NBA MVP Russell Westbrook as the Thunder look to become the latest team to try and dethrone the Warriors in the Western Conference.

The Cavaliers and Celtics were other possible trade destinations for George.

George and the Pacers were swept by the Cavs in the first round of the playoffs.

RUBIO TRADED TO JAZZ

» The Timberwolves reached an agreement with Utah on Friday to send point guard Ricky Rubio to the Jazz to clear salary cap space for a big run in free agency.

The Jazz sent the Thunder’s 2018 firstround draft pick to the Timberwolves in exchange for Rubio, a talented Spaniard who has struggled with injuries at times over his six years in Minnesota. Utah received the pick when it traded Enes Kanter away as part of a three-team deal in 2015.

The two sides agreed to the move hours before free agency opened. The Jazz needed to make the deal before July 1 or would have lost the salary cap room necessary to pull it off.

Rubio’s arrival likely means the end of George Hill’s run in Utah, though general manager Dennis Lindsey said Wednesday that Hill remained a top priority.
