Indoor adventure park coming to city
The city of Avon will welcome a new indoor adventure gym at 38525 Chester Road.
Economic Development Coordinator Pam Fechter said the Play:CLE will take over an old boat yard and will open sometime this fall.
According to the company’s website, the 25,000-square-foot facility is a combination of entertainment, adventure and fun and will offer zip-lining, an obstacle course and a ninja warrior course and numerous climbing walls for a unique fitness experience.
Fechter said owner Greg Carlin hopes to host birthday parties and corporate events.
Since the business is taking over an existing structure, it did not require approval from the city’s Planning Commission and was approved by the building department, she said.
Meanwhile, the Planning Commission approved June
21 two new retail development proposals.
The complex will be located at the intersection of Middleton and Nagel roads just off the Ohio Turnpike.
The development is on a lot encompassing nearly four acres and will feature a 20,000-square-foot facility for commercial retail use.
Developers Grant Giltz of Giltz and Associates and Keith Dylewski of CivPro representing 1801 Nagel
Road LLC were granted the approval.
The development does not have any vendors at this time, but the owners are encouraged by the opportunity to bring more business to Avon, city officials said.
An artist’s rendering of the project resembled a multi-unit retail development in which city officials praised the developers for taking steps to customize
their design to the community.
“In that area, we do not have an architectural review, so we really do appreciate you taking it upon yourself to try to match the area that’s around you,” Fechter said.
The final development plan was approved by the Planning Commission contingent on a final review by the city’s engineering department.
Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen said the project will break ground soon after the developers conduct site work and upgrades to the parking lot.
Jensen stressed there are no commitments as to how many businesses will move into the new complex, but expressed optimism in the development in the area with the construction of a Meijer Inc. grocery store scheduled to open in 2019.
“With the additional Meijer’s there, I hope it will spur more development and increase exposure for Meijer and people in that area,” he said. “Hopefully, we will get more businesses there.”
The Planning Commission also gave final approval for the new Ashley Furniture store location on the south side of Chester Road.
The 42,000-square-foot facility will bring about 30 new jobs to Avon and is located in the same complex with Duluth Trading Co., which will open in the fall.
Avon is continuing to grow with a flurry of new businesses and housing developments coming to the city.
