Four teens charged in ringing doorbells

-

Four 15-year-old boys from Amherst and Lorain are in hot water after a game of ding dong ditch ended with a mad dash from the police and summonses.

According to a Lorain police report, officers were dispatched just before 2 a.m. on July 8 to the area of Santina Way and Camden Boulevard for reports of doorbells being rung and those who did the ringing running away before the door was answered.

According to the report, there have been multiple issues with such occurrences over the past few months in the area, as well as reports of several houses and vehicles being egged and thefts from open garages and cars.

As officers searched the scene, one located a pair of juveniles near the intersection of Freedom Place and Astor Lane. The juveniles ran away and managed to lose the officers.

At 3 a.m. two juveniles were spotted walking along the 3400 block of Jaeger Road. Officers stopped the juveniles and observed signs that the two had recently fled and traveled through a field. When asked, the two 15-year-old males, both from Amherst, admitted to running from police earlier in the night and ringing the doorbells.

The two were taken to their friends’ house, where they were staying the night, and the two 15-year-old boys who lived in the Lorain home also admitted to ringing doorbells earlier in the night, the report said.

All four were issued summonses on charges of breaking curfew and disturbing the peace.
